Audry G. “Bud” Mathews, 84, of Rushville went home to be with his Lord April 2, 2024.
Bud was the son of the late Audry C. And Lila F. (Friend) Mathews; born June 29, 1939 in Tremont, Illinois.
He attended a one room school from grade one to grade six, then attended grades eight through eleven at Deer Creek in Mackinaw, IL. In 1988, he obtained his GED after working his day job and attending classes in Rushville.
After serving in the US Army stateside and Germany, he boarded a bus May 30, 1964 from Illinois to Rushville and worked at International Furniture Factory. He then went to work at Veco Indiana Manufacturing Company where he retired as a foreman in shipping and receiving after 47 years, where he was known for his “wit.”
September 18, 1964, he married the love of his life, Cecilia Kay Kirchoff and she would precede him in death in 2022.
Bud is survived by his daughter Tonia (Joe) Bunch, of Rushville, IN; grandchildren Austin Bunch and Kayla Hillebrand and his great-granddaughter Lyla Hillebrand.
Bud was baptized at First Baptist Church in Rushville where he served as an usher and trustee. He attended Ben Davis Creek Christian Church in Rushville where he and Cecilia did volunteer work for Angel Food Ministries and Rush County Food Pantry collection for their church.
They also gave home to wandering felines, who found their way to a new home and in need of some TLC. Bud was the #1 Cubs fan since he was a young boy in Illinois and had hoped they’d win the world series in his lifetime and they did in 2016!
Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory with Pastor Darryl Cooper officiating. Friends and loved ones are welcome to visitation from 11 A.M. until the time of service. Bud will be laid to rest next to his Cecilia at East Hill Cemetery in Rushville.
