Alfred Yager, 94, of Rushville, IN passed away October 13, 2023. He was born October 16, 1928, in Ripley County, IN to the late Fred and Matilda (Kieffer) Yager.
After moving out of the Jefferson Proving Grounds to a farm in southern Rush County with his family, Alfred graduated from New Salem High School in 1947, where he played basketball. He served in the U.S. Army. He married Eleanor Volk on September 7, 1959.
Alfred worked as a local hired farm hand growing up and a brief time at RCA in Indianapolis. He then became a lifelong farmer in Rush County. He enjoyed hunting, playing Euchre with his family, and spending Sundays with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: David Yager, Nancy (Scott) Newbold, Patty (Jim) Moffett, Sharon (Brad) Pike, Steve (Kim) Yager, Gary (April) Yager, Linda (Ron) Reed and Kelly Connolly. He was known as "Papaw Yager" to 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way). He is also survived by two sisters, his twin Alberta Neuman of Rushville and Esther Nieman of Greensburg; one brother Francis (Kathleen) Yager of Rushville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kenny, as well as sisters Evelyn Yager and Alice Nobbe; brothers Aaron Yager, Raymond Yager, and Henry Yager.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Rushville, IN with Rev. Dustin Boehm celebrating. All are invited to pray the rosary at 3:45 pm with visitation from 4 to 8 pm Monday, October 16, 2023, at Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory in Rushville. Burial will be at Rushville's Calvary Cemetery.
