Charles E. Palmer

Charles Edward Palmer, 80, of Rushville, passed away Jan. 11, 2022 at his home.

Charles was born on Feb.  26, 1941 in Rushville, Indiana to the late Paul Harold Palmer and Nellie Katherine (Woods) Palmer.

He was drafted in the last group for the Vietnam War where he served as a Specialist E4 Medic for the U.S. Army.

Upon his return home from the Army, Charlie worked at the Schnadig Corp in Rushville for 22.5 years.  After the closing of Schnadig, Charlie earned his GED and then began his 14.5 years working as a custodian for the Rushville Elks Club before his retirement.

Charlie enjoyed playing Bingo, Elvis and Country music, collecting coins, chickens, and other collectibles, attending yard sales, taking care of his many dogs and birds over the years, and spending time with family and friends. He also loved attending activities with his great niece and nephew and getting into trouble with them.

Charlie was preceded in death by his sisters, Roselynn, Janet, Ruby, and Mary and his brother, Bill.

Charlie is survived by his sister, Kathy (Palmer) Linville, and brother, Richard Palmer and many nieces and nephews.  He will also be, greatly, missed by his dog, Sara, and Parakeet, Petey.

Although he never had children or grandchildren of his own, he was by all accounts a father figure and a grandfather to his nieces, nephews, and grand nieces, and nephews, who affectionately called him, "Pappy."

Services will be Jan. 14, 2022 at Todd Funeral Centre and Crematory in Rushville.  Darryl Cooper will be officiating. Visitation will be held 10:00-11:00 AM for family and 11:00 AM-1:00 PM for all.  The service will begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery in Rushville.
