Emily Laura Magee, 90, also lovingly known as "Mum", "Emmy", "The Iron Lady", and "The Divine Miss Em" left us on Monday June 7 2022 to be with her eternal dance partner in Heaven.
She entered this life on September 29, 1931 born to Emily Laura (Burling) & Robert A. Drayton in New Market England. Emily married Merrill Stanley Magee on June 30, 1954 and he preceded her in death on July 7, 1996. She was the last of 12 children, preceded in death by her parents, 7 brothers and 4 sisters
Although Emily retained her citizenship to her home country, she was a proud supporter of her husband, a "lifer" in the USAF, as well as a promoter of patriotism and the true American spirit. For many years she was an active member of the Auxiliaries of the Rushville chapters of the American Legion, Eagles, and the VFW. She found joy in spending endless hours creating floats for the Rushville Independence Day parades and started an Uncle Sam tradition that lasted over 25 years. She had a servant's heart and it showed in everything she did.
She was Christened as a baby and was baptized as an adult at the Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage in the early 1980's.
What she loved above and beyond all was her family; her own and the ones she "picked up along the way". She has left behind her children, Antony D Magee (ex-wife Frances), Merrill (Cheryl) Magee, and Lisa Boaz, all of Rushville; her favorite child, Fred Standbrook, of TN; Seven grandchildren, Brandy Matthew Aaron, Elly, Lacie, Michael, and Michelle; Twelve great-grandchildren; and countless others who she loved just as much as if she had raised them herself.
Visitation for Emily will be 4 to 8 PM Monday June 13th and the Funeral Services will follow the next day at 11 AM Tuesday June 14, 2022 at the Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory. Pastor Zachary Korff will offer words of comfort. She will then be buried next to Stan in the Riverside Cemetery in Carthage, IN
Memorial contributions can be made to the Rushville Animal Shelter or the Rushville Fireworks Fund with envelopes available at the funeral centre. Please light a candle and share your memory at www.ToddFuneralHome.com
