Esther A. (Apple) Newhouse

Esther A. Newhouse, 91, of New Palestine, IN, passed away February 8, 2023 at Hancock Regional Hospital.
 

Esther was born April 14, 1931, in Rushville, to Ola and Leona (Clark) Apple.  Esther met Nelson, her future husband of 61 years, when he came to Mays High School, and they graduated and began their life together in 1949 - marrying in 1951.
 

Esther attended Central Business College (Indianapolis) and began working at Rush Memorial Hospital in Medical Records when it opened in Rushville in 1950.  She later worked in Medical Records at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield before retiring. 
 

Esther and Nelson ran a small farm in the town they loved where they grew the family that she cherished. Her family includes her son, Rick Newhouse (Jill) of Indianapolis and her two daughters, Tamra Akinci (Jay) and Pamela Butcher (Tony), both of New Palestine. Additionally, she has five grandchildren which include Kirby Hisel (Matt) of Versailles, KY; Allison Giesting (Rob) of Crestwood, KY; Lauren Reeves of Mooresville, IN; Brendon Steele (Kathy) of Austin, TX; and Nicholas Butcher (Tarah) of New Palestine, IN. She also has 8 great-grandchildren including Waylon Reeves, Eli Hisel, Noah Hisel, Georgia Giesting, Caroline Giesting, Henry Giesting, Nelly Steele and Eren Steele.
 

She is survived by all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Aleene Hunsinger of Brownsburg, IN. 
 

Esther valued her faith and family above all else and adored spending time with her family and friends. She was always full of stories and laughter, and brought light to all who spent time with her. She made everyone she spoke to feel precious and loved.
 

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Thurman Apple, and her sister Avis Morford Hawkins.
 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Todd Funeral Centre and Crematory, 1600 S. SR 3, Rushville, IN 46173.  Burial will follow the service at Center Church Cemetery, Mays, IN.  Friends may call at the funeral home from Noon to 2pm.
