James W. McQueen Jr., age 89, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2023, in Rushville. Born on Feb. 23, 1934, in Jackson County, KY, he was the son of the late Rhoda (Birch) and James W. McQueen Sr. Known for his hard work, dedication, and love for his family, James will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
James was a devoted husband to his late wife, Darlene (Taylor) McQueen, whom he married on January 5, 1957. Their love story was one of true companionship and mutual respect, lasting over six decades until Darlene's passing in 2019.
James was a proud father to his three daughters, Debbie (husband Gary) Combs, Elaine McQueen, and Denitta (husband Gene) Newsom, and his son, David (wife Alice) McQueen. He was also a cherished brother to John "Ed" McQueen. His six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren will fondly remember him and the joy he brought into their lives.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife, sister Christine Baker, and brother Pat McQueen.
James was a dairy farmer. His work ethic was admired by many and his contributions to the farming community will not be forgotten. He was also a member of the Laurel Pentecostal Church.
In his leisure time, James found joy in flying RC airplanes and drones, a hobby that brought him enjoyment. However, his greatest joy was his family. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating memories.
Graveside Services will be 1:00 PM Monday, July 17, 2023 at Richland/Fishers Cemetery in Rush County. Pastor Rob Edwards will offer spiritual comfort. Please light a candle and share a memory with the family at www.ToddFuneralHome.com
