John Allen Cain, 85, of Rushville, IN, passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side on June 8, 2023.
John was born in Hancock County, IN on March 10, 1938, a son of the late Mary (Atherton) and Lawrence Cain. He graduated Mt. Comfort High School in 1956 and went on to Central Business College and graduated in 1958. He served honorably in the US Army in1956-57. He was a farmer over 50 years. John was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was proud to be a co-founder of the St. Mary Catholic School Foundation.
John married Rosemary McCauley April 4, 1959 and they raised four children, Debbie (Mrs. Chris) Ripberger of Glenwood, IN; sons Mark A. Cain of Shelbyville, IN, Jerry D. Cain of Stilesville, IN. He is preceded in death by his son, Roger Cain. Rosemary died Oct 31, 1999.
John married Ellen Albright Melton on Dec. 1, 2000 who survives. They shared nearly 23 years of happiness together. He will also be greatly missed by 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
His loving family also includes two step sons: Jimmy (Leslie) Melton, Carl (Terri) Melton, two daughter in laws, Christy Dean Cain of Greenfield, IN and Jean Owens Cain of Rushville; sisters, Elinor “Peage” Davidson of Oaklandon, IN and Nancy Miller of Lafayette, IN; brothers Frank (wife Earlene) Cain of Oaklandon, IN and Jim (wife Vicki) Cain of Pomona, KS; sister in law, Janice Cain of Knightstown, IN.
John was preceded in death by his first wife Rosemary; son, Roger in 2016; sister Ruth Ann and husband Bud Leavell; brothers, William and wife Jeanie, Lou and wife Coleen Cain, Jerry Cain, and grandson, Jeremy Cain; two brothers in law, Elsworth (Mike) Davidson & Howard (Les) Miller.
The Service Schedule will be as follows;
Recitation of the rosary will be 3:45 PM Monday June 12, 2023 followed by a Prayer Service by Jim Cain at 4 PM. Visitation will follow until 8 PM at Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory.
Military Honors will be 9:30 AM Tuesday, June 13, 2023 by the Rush County Honor Guard at Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. James Brockmeier officiating. Burial will take place at Rushville’s Calvary Cemetery.
