Lynn Turner Obituary

Lynn A. Turner passed away May 28, 2022 in his home.

He was born January 5, 1932 the son of the late Arthur A. Turner and Ethel Turner.

A graduate of Royerton High School with honors and where he lettered in basketball, he was a member of the track team that had the best time in the state in the half mile relay two years in a row. He also excelled in baseball, he was best in state one year with a batting average of 660. 

Having served in the Naval Reserve during High School, he was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict. After graduating from the Naval Academy at the top of his class, He was named Honor man of company 11. Before assignment to his permanent duty station, he got lucky and was able to play one year of Baseball for the Great Lakes Naval Training Station. He was assigned as a gunnery instructor aboard the USS Daniel A Joy 505. He was honorably discharged in 1956, after serving 6 years.

Lynn was assistant branch manager for Commonwealth Loan Co. in Muncie then manager in New Castle and in Indianapolis he joined Citizens State Bank for 5 years. He started at Henry County Savings & Loan on 6-6-1966 and retired 12-12-2012 as Vice President.

Mr. Turner served his community in numerous Philanthropic endeavors, a few of them being, raising money for Senior Night Club Party for too many years to count, the same for the YMCA. Serving several terms on the board of directors of the Henry County Chamber of Commerce he was the person who along with Basil Coleman reestablished the Chambers Golf Outing, known now as the Ameriana Bank Outing, which raises money to support the Basketball Hall of Fame. He served as President of The Westwood Country Club, and also spent 5 years as secretary of the Board of Directors. Mr. Turner spent 46 1/2 years with Ameriana and retired as Manager of Banking Facilities.

Lynn married Janice L. Hall in 1953. They have a daughter LuAnn Sutton of New Castle and a son David L. Turner, wife Sheri Lowhorn of Largo, Florida. Two granddaughters, Andrea M. Turner of New Castle and Alison F. husband Zac Moore of Clearwater, Florida. Two grandsons, Lee M. Sutton, wife Anmarie Russo of Parker, Colorado and Daniel A. Sutton of Lake Waukomis, Missouri. Four great grandchildren, Andrew Jordan Turner of New Castle, Lana Shea Sutton and Carter M. Sutton of Parker, Colorado. Elizabeth Moore of Clearwater, Florida. He is survived by a brother, Gilbert M. Turner of Richmond, Indiana.

He is preceded in death by a sister, M. Jane Hiatt of Muncie, Indiana and Son-in-law, Larry A. Sutton.

The family would like to invite friends to a memorial gathering at the family residence from 4-7 pm on Sunday, June 5th with military honors concluding the service at 7pm.
