Ralph Niehoff Obituary

Ralph W Niehoff, 88, a Rush Co. Resident passed away on March 16, 2024, at home surrounded by family.  Ralph was born in Decatur County on October 23, 1935, to the late William and Thelma (Leising) Niehoff. 

Ralph graduated from Milroy High school in 1953.  He married Janet Sue Overleese Niehoff at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Rushville, IN, in 1957.  He is survived by his children which include; Kathy (Bill) Lilegdon, David (Lori) Niehoff, John (Kelly) Niehoff, Joanna (Bill) Tuohy, Jim (Katie) Niehoff, son-in-law Ken Hardwick; 12 grandchildren, Janet (Steve) German, Katie Lilegdon (Fiancé Austin Madden), Will Lilegdon; Kristen (James) Kendrick, Jenny Niehoff, Scott (Natalie) Niehoff, Brooke (Daniel) Tillie, Austin (Brooke) Niehoff, Phil Tuohy, Sam Tuohy, Avery Niehoff & Lauren Niehoff; 7 great-grandchildren, Caroline & Gabriel German, Cooper, Reid & Norah Kendrick, Brantley Niehoff, Emerson Tillie.  He is also survived by his sisters Marilyn Moeller, Ruth Battreall, Edna (Bruce) Knecht  & brother-in-law Steve Cravens & John Overleese. Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Carol Niehoff Hardwick (1995), & sister Betty Cravens.

Ralph was involved at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rushville, IN. He served on the parish council, as an usher and served on the cemetery committee. Ralph took great pride in his farming, making sure his crop rows were straight, fences were mowed, and animals were well cared for.  He loved his many German Shepherds & Labradors. They would ride along with Ralph in his truck. He also loved his horses. Ralph enjoyed playing with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, watching Purdue basketball and San Francisco Giants baseball in his free time.  Purdue was his favorite, as evidenced by the large Purdue Pete painted on his fertilizer tank.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Thursday, Mar. 21, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew Perronie, Celebrant.  Friends are welcome to pray the rosary Wednesday, 3:45 PM with visitation until 8:00 PM at Todd Funeral Home, 1600 S. SR 3, Rushville, IN 46173.  Burial will take place at Rushville's Calvary Cemetery.
