Donald Albert Wheeldon, 83, of Rushville, IN passed away Sept. 16 2019, at Rush Memorial.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Sept. 23, 2019 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. James Brockmeier officiating. Burial and Military Honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 6 PM Sunday Sept. 22, 2019 at Todd Funeral Centre where all are welcome for the prayer service at 1:45 PM.
Don was born in Lake Charles, LA on June 7, 1936, a son of the late Rosemary (Sawers) and John A Wheeldon. He married Nelda M. Lytton April 20, 1957 in and she survives him.
Mr. Wheeldon served 21 years in the United States Marine Corps and retired as Master Sergeant. He served in the Korea and Viet Nam wars with the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. Throughout his military service, Don stationed in Korea; Japan; at the 8th & I, Washington DC; MCAS El Torro, Orange, CA; MCAS Kaneohe Bay, Kailua, HI; MCAS Cherry Point, NC; MCAS Beaufort, SC; and Nam Phong, Thailand.
Following his military service, he worked for the Copeland corporation in Ohio then transfered to Rushville where he retired in 1999 after 25 years. He was a expert world class skeet shooter and won many medals and trophies through the years. His memberships include Veterans of Viet Nam War; National Skeet Shooting Assoc. and the St. Mary Catholic Church.
In addition to his Wife Nelda, survivors include a daughter, Patricia (Tim) Caudill, of Rushville, IN; a son, Colin (Lisa) Wheeldon, of Anna, OH; a brother, James Robert (Frances) Wheeldon, of Lake Charles, LA; three grandchildren, John Arthur (Chrissy) Wheeldon of Troy, OH; Melissa Sue (Jake) Cotterman, Kettlersville, OH; Samantha (Alex) Lynch, St. Johns, FL; five great grandchildren, Destiny Wheeldon, Layla Wheeldon, Elijah Smith, Devery Coverstone, Jack Wheeldon. Three nephews and one niece also will miss him.
He was preceded in death by his twin sister Martha Ann Elfert. Memorial donations are requested to American Cancer Society PO Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
